Exome

Portion of the genome that consists of protein-coding regions or exons. Exons are the segments of DNA that are transcribed into RNA and ultimately translated into proteins. Although the exome represents only a small fraction of the entire genome (about 1-2%), it contains the majority of disease-causing mutations.
